Glen, at Newton, is an acknowledged expert and one of our wheel alignment specialists, with over 30 years experience.

If your vehicle’s steering wheel vibrates at certain speeds, pulls to either side, wanders, the steering feels heavier than before, or if your tires seem to be wearing quickly or unevenly, there's little doubt that your car requires a wheel alignment.

Put simply, a poor wheel alignment means that your tires are not running smoothly on the road surface or that not all of your four tires are heading in the same direction.

Deterioration of wheel alignment may occur gradually and imperceptibly or instantly as a result of an impact or component failure. The effect of this deterioration may range from a barely noticeable shimmy in the steering to a violet vibration of the car and severe pulling towards one side of the road.

Whatever the obvious signs, poor wheel alignment detracts from the overall performance and ride quality of your car, reduces fuel economy, places greater stress on other components and can greatly the reduce the life of your tires. In the worst case, a poor wheel alignment may reduce the life of new tires from 80,000 km down to 8,000 km or less and increase fuel consumption by up to 30%.

What Midway Excel Tire & Auto Centre Service includes:

  • Angle reading of all four wheels
  • Set rear wheels to specifications, if applicable (some vehicles lack adjustments and capabilities).
Rear thrust line will now line up with center line of vehicle
  • Rotate all 4 tires
  • Reinforce front wheels to rear thrust line and correct alignment using all factory
  • Center steering wheel
  • Road test
  • Rear wheel drive vehicles only have the two front wheels that actually require adjustments. Front wheel drives have adjustments on front and rear of the vehicle. Alignment angles are toe, camber and caster.

Caster: is the forward or backwards inclination of the wheels. Caster causes very little tire wear but it does cause problems with vehicle handling.

Camber: is tilting of the wheels inwards or outwards of the vehicle. Camber does cause the vehicle to pull to one side.

Toe: is the difference between leading edges and trailing edges of the front of the wheel and tire assembly, measured at the spindle height.

NOTE: Worn parts will need to be replaced before alignment can be done properly.
